Why Should I Pray? By Stanley T. Crawford

We should pray to God for at least two important reasons. First of all, God has instructed us to pray. Second for a purely selfish reason, prayer causes things to happen. Another way of looking at this is “prayer gets results, or cause and effect.”

Several of the scriptures from the bible exhort us to pray to God (I Thessalonians 5:16-18, James 1:5 – 8, James 5: 13 – 18, and Philippians 4:6 & 7). This is just a sampling of the verses that encourage us to pray. Prayer provides a way for us to communicate with God. We can pray to God by using the Lord’s Prayer (Matthew 6:8-13) or we can merely speak to God. God is constantly aware of what we do and what we say. He is omnipotent. Yet, we must exercise our faith by acknowledging God.

Praying is a way that we communicate with and acknowledge God. Of course, we need to be sincere in our prayers to God. God, unlike man can not be fooled. This is because God knows all, sees all, and understands all. God weighs the hearts of men and women. He knows purity and hypocrisy and degrees in between. A prime example of God’s ability to determine sincerity occurred when Jesus watched the people give money to the treasury. Many people gave money based on their abundance, however one poor widow gave all that she had (Mark 12:41-44). This is a judgment of the heart. Only God is able to make a pure judgment about another person’s heart.

Prayer can have a cause and effect impact on our lives. For instance, when Paul was in prison the people of the church constantly prayed and God sent an angel to free Paul from prison (Acts 12: 5- 11). In addition, Jesus prayed to God on Peter’s behalf (Luke 22:31 & 32), he prayed for Peter’s faith, that it shouldn’t fail. Also, Jesus prayed for himself and his disciples (Matthew 26:36-46)

In conclusion, we can see that since God answers prayer then nothing is impossible. In addition, we can pray to God about any issue that concerns us. We can give thanks, we can make requests. A great thing about our prayers is that we don’t have to tell anyone about what we pray. Pray for yourself, your parents, your brother, your sister, your boss, your present, your future, your country, and your “?”. Pray, pray, and pray!!!

You know, most of the books out there are garbage: that’s to say, they’re just not needed. See, this is the crucial aspect a man must ask himself before sitting down with a pen: “Does the world really need this book?” Unfortunately, the answer is generally a big, bloated “NO!” I mean, just take a stroll through any bookstore and tell me that the world couldn’t do without the majority of that crapola. In fact, in many cases, the world is much worse off for having such material. In particular, I’m referring to most all of the “Self-Help” genre. You know the false prophets of our day: Oprah, Dr. Phil, Stephen Covey, et al.

Really, what gives these folks the audacity to present themselves as the bearers of truth and answers. In this mysterious, vast universe does any mortal possess a definitive answer? Really! It’s quite remarkable. Friends, if you want real wisdom, forget about these twentieth century charlatans and turn to, say, Jesus or the Dalia Lama. Why mess around with the guppies when the whales are right there waiting for you.

That having been said, I do think it’s worthwhile and necessary for new books to be written: and I mean today; and, perhaps I’m an opinionated guy, but I’m talking about the right books: books that come straight from the heart, with a poignant urgency, because they must be written. Not too many books that weren’t written in a warzone deserve to be published.

What’s meant by warzone? See, I’m just the type of fool who can anticpate your questions. By warzone, I’m talking about strife, conflict, trouble. It’s no small coincidence that many of our greatest artists and writers were also, generally, somewhat disturbed and dysfunctional people: the whole ear-chopping, alcoholic, suicidal trip. It may seem bleak, and I don’t endorse such pessimism personally, but, history supports my claim. And, you’ll notice, many of them beat back their demons with the candor of their pens and paints! That’s important to note baby! Through candid art, one can triumph over adversity! Amen! Amen!

No, there is no coincidence in that observation. And, a real litmus test sort of question: “Do you think the world, generally, is troubled?” Ask that at the next cocktail party you attend. See what sort of answers you get. I’ll tell you, the person who answers “Yes” is the woman I’d be most interested in reading.

So, to be more specific, what I’m really talking about is the subject you choose to write about. And, I’m advocating that you select a highly personal aspect of your life which troubles you. This approach is responsible for such writers as James Baldwin, Richard Wright, Albert Camus, Sylvia Plath, and Henry Miller: to name just a few.

Of course, there is a type of implicit irony, in that when you’re in the midst of your troubles, it’s quite difficult to write about them. And, that’s what this is all about. That’s writing in a warzone baby. We see that so clearly in the work of–to take one example–James Baldwin, who was so deeply disturbed by the racial inequalities of his day. In his novels, it’s apparent that Mr. Baldwin was really struggling with life and trying to find an inner peace. And, he still managed to write the whole time. And, prolifically, I’ll add. This is not an easy accomplishment. And, that’s the point…many beautiful books, by nature, don’t come into existence, because the troubled circumstances–which, should be the subject–prevent one from achieving the necessary concentration and focus.

The writer must remember why the potential book matters. It matters because it’s going to change the world: nothing less! And, it will, as many authors have done before you…and, as many authors will do after. That’s the beauty of sitting down, by yoursef, with a pen and a paper: you have the potential to change the future. And, that should be your goal! And, of course, you want to change the future for the better, because, deep-down, you’re the biggest optimist on the planet, and, if you’re not, you might as well stop reading this right this instant baby, because, you’ve got the wrong writer before you.

So, you want to change the world for the better. Good. What else? You have to maintain concentration on your material. You need to think about it all the time. When you look at the clouds, you’ve got to see the people you’re writing about. You’ve just got to become overwhelmed by love baby! And, that love will lead you to prayer.

Uh Oh! Did this writer mention prayer? You’re not supposed to do that! Too bad. You know, in this age and culture, which seems to be quite involved with religion, it’s funny that somehow it’s not cool to mention it. Too bad again. We’re talking about writing a book which concerns a difficult, personal topic, while you’re in the midst of the experience, and, besides staying centered on the material and seeing the people in the clouds, you better drop down to your knees and ask the Great One in the sky for a little assistance. There’s nothing wrong with that. Ask to be guided and protected and for help with your work in which you’re trying to improve the world. Please read this article before you drive any conclusion about this topic or the author. This is a very serious matter which is today affecting a lot of lives. The slavery of the words god and religion has lead to the death of many, compared to other causes. The words which were made to help the needy, are now doing the reverse.

Meaning of the word God. – If somebody helps you in times of need. The person holds the meaning of that word, god. That person is god. But instead you say some heavenly body god helped you. And then you try to cheat the same person. That’s what it is. That’s what we are doing. Because for us god is something very powerful who never dies and bla bla bla. And you think god fooled that person to help you.

Another meaning of word God – Dust bin (use me). Every good thing is done by me and every bad thing is blamed on that three letter word. Its so small but is great help as the minds of the people are corrupt.

Stop poisoning your kid’s mind – If you tell your children that don’t believe in a ghost. Do one thing more tell him don’t believe in god and religion. This will help a lot. Instead, teach them to help others. Why you never tell them that every body born on this earth has equal rights. And please never bind them to a religion. Let their mind be free. A little discipline and freedom of thought can develop a leader. But hatred for others can only develop a loser. There were many, I don’t want to name, as I don’t want to hurt the feelings of others like they did.

Religion – A reason for one person to kill another person without reason. Funny, I don’t think so. Religion takes much more lives than we can even think of. Why never a survey is conducted about how many humans are killed in religious fights. I just wanted to ask one little thing – why do we have to follow the teachings of a foolish, uneducated person who died centuries before. Did he ever know that earth revolves around sun? I don’t think so. Did he know that there’s no heaven present? So why we think that he is much more intelligent than us and knows what is right and what’s wrong.

I will not waste your time further. I think this is enough for an intelligent person to rethink his stand over this issue. Please think logically. Don’t make your life a fairy tale. Try to live in reality.

The weather has been kind of funny lately. The other night we had a man-killing tornado in Indiana and it is NOVEMBER!

Katrina and Wilma and the other girls spewed vengeance across the Caribbean and the Southeast. Added to the tsunami and the horrible earthquakes, things just don’t seem right.

I saddled my horse and headed for the hills to find The Weather Hermit.

I lied there. I didn’t saddle my horse. I’m afraid to get up that high. What if I fell?

If you live where I live, you should have a horse. I do have one. I asked a friend of mine to give me one of his horses, the mare with a white stripe between her eyes. I told him I didn’t want to take the mare or feed her or change her shoes. I just wanted him to keep my mare at his place and I would come by with my grandkids once in a while to look at her. The last time I was over there, he handed me a vet bill. I haven’t been over there since.

On with the lie: I rode for three days up one hill and down the other. I finally reached “Bleach Cave.” Surely The Weather Hermit would be there. I moved the burlap hanging over the mouth of the cave and asked, “Is The Weather Hermit in there?”

A voice came back, “Who did you expect, the The Jolly Green Giant?

I recognized the good-humored voice of The Weather Hermit. He came out, squinting at the son. “I didn’t know that it was goin’ to be nice today. Let me get my camp chair.”

When he came back he said, “Nice horse!”

I said, “Imaginary!”

He said, “Then why does it smell like a horse?”

I said, to The Weather Hermit, “I’ve come to seek your wisdom. What’s with this freaky weather?”

He said, “It’s Global Warming!”

I said, “I could learn that on television.”

He said, “Where do you think they get there information? Sometime back someone stuck his big thumb into the North Pole and made the ocean 10,000 feet deep there. A hump formed in the Antarctic. Now the globe is in a thigwobble. Things are not goin’ to get any better.”

I said, “You read my article, didn’t you? I didn’t know you had a computer.”

“I don’t,” he said. “I borrowed one from the TV guy for a minute.”

I said, “Are you saying that I started your talk about the wobble in the earth and Global Warming?”

He said, “Could be but I’ll never admit it.”

I got what I usually get from The Weather Hermit.

The Hero’s Journey is the template upon which the vast majority of successful stories and Hollywood blockbusters are based upon. Understanding this template is a priority for story or screenwriters:

The Hero’s Journey:

• Attempts to tap into unconscious expectations the audience has regarding what a story is and how it should be told.

• Gives the writer more structural elements than simply three or four acts, plot points, mid point and so on.

• Interpreted metaphorically, laterally and symbolically, allows an infinite number of varied stories to be created.

The Hero’s Journey is also a study of repeating patterns in successful stories and screenplays. It is compelling that screenwriters have a higher probability of producing quality work when they mirror the recurring patterns found in successful screenplays.

• Titanic (1997) grossed over $600,000,000 – uses the Hero’s Journey as a template.

One case pointing to the requirement of hand to hand battle is Troy (2004). Here, Paris destroys Achilles with arrows from afar: it is a weak solution and unbefitting a hero.

In Star Wars (1977), Vader has to come out to face Luke.

In Spiderman (2002), the Green Goblin and Spiderman face each other mano-a-mano.

In Gladiator (2000), Maximus and Commodus battle in the arena.

Writing articles is fun, people like to read them, for instance you are reading this article. Some say writing articles about sex is inappropriate yet we all know we are the result of sex and there are 300 million people in the America and it is the third largest populated country in the World so obviously there is a lot of this going on here right? So then it is hard to argue that some part of the human endeavor that is so much part of American life should not be discussed.

Recently as an experiment I had sent in an article to a website titled; “Sex in a Cessna” and had considered the content, wondering if it was accurate and non-offensive. Perhaps you might wish to read it to see for yourself, google it; Sex in a Cessna. I felt it was not too offensive and important information for anyone trying to attempt such. I sincerely hope no one got too aroused over that article? If so perhaps that person has some problematic issues? The days of the Puritans really are no longer with us and people should lighten up a tad.

It seems that such articles should be judged on a per case basis is the issue. If one reviews the article and then decides the level of appropriateness then one could determine if it fails the test. It is similar to the comment by one judge? “I can’t define it, but I know it when I see it” so perhaps the person who wrote email me to complain about the article has a point; hard to say really?

My thoughts are when someone starts getting into graphic details it is quite problematic. And if this were to be done it should be done away from kids and teenagers and put onto a new .xxx website and not on an article site for the masses. It appears most would advise against it completely, writing trash does not do well for a civilization, sure their will always be those who will write such things, but most would agree that stuff should not be on the Internet and if it is on a site designated for such things only.

I therefore hold my article “Sex in a Cessna” out as an example of a fair and balanced approach to writing about sexual instruction and sex in the human endeavor without getting pornographic. You may wish to write an article similar to mine, perhaps placing the scene in a much classier tone by putting your article into circulation in a Lear Jet and tell people the thrill of joining the mile high club. Authors, please keep the Internet Clean and think on this.

The name of the game as far as Internet marketing is concerned is original content. If you are serious about promoting your website, increasing traffic and improving your search engine page ranking then your website must have original articles with relevant content.

Original articles can be beneficial to your web site in two major ways.

1. Keywords. Search engines can only see text. Therefore it is vital that the pages of your website have a lot of text which include keywords associated with your target market or product. In addition to submitting your articles to blogs you can have a section of your website called “articles.” An article can have an entire page dedicated to it targeted to a specific keyword. It is important that you do not use the exact same articles, which you are also submitting to your blog. You can re-word the articles though and then use them. Search engines will know it if you are using the same material in different areas of your web site and this is not an accepted practice.

Finally, a third way you can use articles to promote your web site is to submit articles for press release. Check out www.prweb.com. This is a great site for submitting our press release and it is free.

Original web content in the form of articles will go a long way in promoting your web site for increased traffic and visibility. The key is to regularly update your articles with new and fresh content, which your target market will find interesting.
