Mount Blanc Increases in Volume from 2001 as Announced by Scientists
Recent precise GPS readings carried out on the 14-15th August have shown that Monte Bianco numbers 4810.2 metres. Mount Blanc is layered by a dense icecap which has augmented by 2.8 metres in not even two years but more unexpectedly the mass of the ice has virtually doubled up . Leastwise that’s as reported by the professionals.
The mass of ice and snow was calculated for the inaugural time in 2002. It worked out to be 14600 cubic metres above 4780 m. It was only 13500 cubic meters in 2001 maybe owing to the heat with + temperatures as high as 4800 metres alt.. Nonetheless the ice-cap has almost doubled since then and at present measures 25000 cubic meters.
Chamonix Mont Blanc’s valued near by weather man Alvin Kalinowski stated the growth in the size of the ice is among the contrary outcomes of climate change: Snow hasnt increased generally in the Alps only with global warming we’re having a lot of hotter prevailing westerly winds which bestow rain at lower altitudes but in summertime this means heavy snowfall that settles higher up than 3700 m height hence the amount of the ice is rising. Contrast that to the state of affairs during wintertime where snow crystals are extremely cold and are moved by wind so do not rest on the top.
Chamonix Haute Savoie France is not only famous for Mont Blanc it is also a world renowned ski area and alpinism centre with many ski deals and lodging bargains to be found. Furthermore at just one hour from Geneva airport it is ideal for a ski weekend.
