Seedtime and harvest

FIRST LOVE RECOVERY MINISTRIES

Seedtime and harvest
Gen.8:22(KJV)
“While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.”

Luke 8:4-8(KJV)
“And when much people were gathered together, and were come to him out of every city, he spake by a parable:

A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it.

And some fell upon a rock; and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it lacked moisture.

And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up with it, and choked it.

And other fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bare fruit an hundredfold. And when he had said these things, he cried, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.”

Luke 8:11-15(KJV)
“Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.

Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.

They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.

And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.

But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.”

The Lord Jesus Christ outlined the parable of the sower in the second set of scriptures and his interpretation of it in the third set of scriptures.
The seed is the word of God(Luke 8:11).
The word of God is the word of the kingdom(Matt. 13:19).
God himself is the King of the kingdom.
God is the sower of the seed.
The seed is good, having the full potential to become a harvest for the sower(Gen.8:22;Isa 55:11).
There are several challenges that a natural seed has to face and overcome before it becomes a fruitful tree to be harvested.
The sower has the obligation to aid the seed to overcome those challenges and become his harvest!
Examples of such challenges with respect to destiny have been discussed briefly in ‘An open door’ and more elaborately in ‘The viral war’.
The word of God contains both his commands and his promises to mankind, and then classical examples of persons and nations that either received his word or rejected it.
The greatest example for us in all generations is Jesus Christ:-
Luke 24:44(KJV)
“And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.”

Jesus Christ co-operated with God so that his word for him and through him could be fulfilled and become the Saviour of mankind according to divine destiny(Luke 2:11).
Divine destiny is the sum total of God’s purposes for mankind in Christ Jesus corporately and individually for all time and eternity.
The aspect of individuality with respect to divine destiny has been highlighted in ‘The bat,the cat,and the rat’.
Divine destiny is revealed to us by God’s indwelling Spirit through the word of God:-
1 Cor.2:9-10(KJV)
“But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.”

This is why the word of God is vital to the issue of divine destiny.
Each person and people is likened to one of the four types of hearers of God’s word analysed in Luke 8:11-15.
Each of us has the personal responsibility to freely choose to receive the word of God!
The starting point is when each person in response to the word of God repents from sin,and receives Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour.
Thereafter each person also has the duty of joyfully, patiently, and firmly keeping the word of God in spite of the inner and outer pressures of life(Luke 8:12-14)!!

Heb.6:12(KJV)
“That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.”

We have already examined the importance of faith with respect to destiny in ‘Rhema Island’.
Linked with faith is patience(Luke 8:15) because the process of discovering, pursuing, and fulfilling divine destiny takes time and effort!
As each one faithfully and patiently follows Jesus Christ by God’s indwelling Spirit, divine destiny begins to unfold unto fulfillment(harvest) in God.

Psalm 1:1-3(KJV)
“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.”

Replacement theology refuted!

The Bible clearly teaches that the Hebrew God chose Abraham, Isaac and Jacob for a special purpose to ultimately affect all humanity.

God first revealed Himself to “the fathers” and promised to be their God and the God of their descendants. The rest of mankind was “temporarily” left in the dark and to their own devices.

God drafted the 12 Tribes of Israel to become His Servant Nation! Moses rejoiced in ISRAEL’S UNIQUE CREATION (Deut.4:32-34).

The Great Creator God had never chosen any other people to represent Him! He had never inducted any other nation into His international service! He had never revealed Himself and entrusted His “Instruction Manual for Mankind,” His holy Law and Word, His Divine Constitution, to any other nation or people in history!

Of physical Israel, God declares: “You only have I known of all the families of the earth” (Amos 3:2), and “He sheweth his word unto Jacob, his statutes and his judgments unto Israel. He hath not dealt so with any nation: and as for his judgments, they have not known them. Praise ye the LORD” (Ps. 147:19-20).

Yes, God ordained Israel to serve as His Custodian of Divine Revelation, specifically the Jews (Rom. 3:1-2). And please note that this was written AFTER the Church was founded and Jesus had given certain authority to his apostles!

The lying proponents of “replacement theology” deny that there’s any advantage to being a Jew or an Israelite. The apostle Paul, under inspiration, strongly disagrees! He wisely continues Jesus’ recognition of the Jew’s God-given authority: “The scribes and Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat: All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do” (Matt. 23:2-3). And Moses prophesied that the Jews are to retain their God-given authority until Christ restores Israel as “One Nation under God.”

Moses didn’t say that Gentiles or the Church had any right to covet or steal that responsibility from the Jews: “The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, UNTIL Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be” (Gen. 49:10). Jesus didn’t do that at His first coming, which is why His disciples asked Him after His resurrection and just before His ascension: “Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?” (Acts 1:6). The King of the Jews will accomplish that divine mission when He returns!

God formed Israel as His Holy Nation, instructed them as His Son, and inducted them into His Divine Service. They received a special calling to become a KINGDOM OF PRIESTS, a MODEL NATION, a LIGHT TO ALL NATIONS. God decreed Israel would be “above [not equal to] all people, And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation” (Ex. 19:5-6).

NO OTHER NATION CAN COMPARE TO GOD’S RELATIONSHIP WITH ISRAEL AND HIS REVELATION TO THEM! (Deut. 4:5-8). Please understand that this utterly unique relationship and revelation is what made Israel great, it wasn’t something inherent within them. It was a gift and a blessing they had received from God, despite themselves! It wasn’t because they were any better than anybody else; it wasn’t because of their race; it was because of GOD’S PURPOSE AND GRACE! (Deut. 7:7-8; 9:5; Matt. 3:9; Rom. 3:23; 9:10-18).

The apostle Paul wrote to Church brethren, about their different gifts and calling (they weren’t all equal): “For who makes thee to differ from another? And what do you have that you didn’t receive? Now if you received it, why do you glory, as if you hadn’t received it?” (1 Cor. 4:7). It is by God’s design that individuals and nations should have different and distinct gifts and callings.

It is our Heavenly Father who directs and establishes us where we belong in His plan, whether it’s in the Church or among the nations (Deut. 32:8). Who are we to question His wisdom or to quarrel about positions? (Isa. 45:9-10; Matt. 20:23; 1 Cor. 12:18).

Jesus is the Firstborn of many brethren, the Church is the collective firstfruits of humanity, and ISRAEL IS THE FIRSTBORN OF MANY NATIONS! In fact, Isaiah 19:25 pronounces: “Blessed be Egypt my people, and Assyria the work of my hands, and Israel mine inheritance.” God has dealt with those three nations more than any others on earth. That is His choice and prerogative. But for now, God has privately tutored Israel like He commands fathers to teach their sons (Deut. 6:7).

God has never referred to any other nation as His Son! Only Israel has that honor: “Thou art my Son” (Ps. 2:7), and “When Israel was a child, then I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt” (Hos. 11:1). We’re the little boy that will show the way to the whole world, once God has subdued our sins, conquered our enemies and changed their bestial natures to befriend us (Micah 7:19-20; Isa. 11:6; Zech. 8:23).

We need to grow up and we will. Israel has been given a head-start in spiritual education, a special advantage, compared to others. We’re not yet mature as a grown man but at least we’re a child while others are still acting like animals! (Lev. 26:22; Rev. 13:18). Nevertheless, “I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light to the Gentiles; I am the LORDand my glory will I not give to another” (Isa. 42:6,8).

God will faithfully fulfill His purpose for calling physical Israel. He will finish what He’s started with our nation! He won’t offer that opportunity to any other! God promises, despite the demonic doctrine of replacement theology: “This people [Israel] have I formed for myself: they shall show forth my praise” (Isa. 43:21). Not Germany or Italy or Ethiopia! Do we believe God? Do we doubt He’s capable of redeeming Israel? Replacement theology doesn’t trust God and denies His saving power! It attempts to limit the Holy One of Israel!

God refers to future events as if they had already happened, since He knows He’ll bring them to pass! (Rom. 4:17). Israel is the first nation that God has called out of spiritual Babylon, but they’re only the first and not the last. God has called physical Israel to prepare them to serve as a CONVERTED NATION with but under His brilliant Kingdom of God-Beings, just like the GLORIFIED CHURCH is destined to serve as Immortal Priest-Kings, with but under Christ! (Rev. 3:21; 20:6).

ISRAEL WILL BE THE FIRST NATION TO RECEIVE THE HOLY SPIRIT! (Ezek. 39:29; Isa. 44:3). Then we’ll share our spiritual blessings with all mankind: “But ye [Israel] shall be named the Priests of the LORD: men shall call you the Ministers of our God; And [Israel's] seed [physical descendants] shall be known among the Gentiles, and their [literal] offspring among the people: all that see them shall [finally] ACKNOWLEDGE THEM, that they are the seed which the LORD hath blessed” (Isa. 61:6,9; Isa. 60:14). And at that time the tribes of Israel will acknowledge Judah for faithful service (Gen. 49:8, Zech. 8:23).

Christ will rule from Jerusalem as Israel’s God-King, and yet there will also be a human prince and other mortals reigning under Him (Jer. 30:21; 33:26; Ezek. 46; Zech. 14:16). Likewise, internationally, the human nation of Israel will rule with but under the divine Kingdom-Family of God, and Zadok’s physical descendants will faithfully serve in the Temple at headquarters (Ezek. 44:15).

All of the above glorifies God for his tender mercies and faithfulness to our fathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. It reveals that “with God all things are possible.” It confirms that “I would not, [Gentile] brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, UNTIL the fullness of the Gentiles be come in. And so, all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Zion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob: for this is my covenant with them, when I shall take away their sins; as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers’ sakes (Abraham, Isaac and Jacob), FOR THE GIFTS AND CALLING OF GOD ARE IRREVOCABLE” (Rom. 11:25-29).

Those who foolishly push replacement theology are “wise in their own conceits.” They have shamefully twisted the Scriptures that refer to spiritual Jews, to spiritual Jerusalem, the spiritual Temple and spiritual Israel – that generously admits repentant Gentiles into the SPIRITUAL COMMONWEALTH OF ISRAEL – to spiritualize away God’s faithful promises to physical Israel! Now that they’ve been admitted, they jealously want to exclude Judah and usurp Israel from their rightful place in God’s plan! (Rom. 11:24). Individual Israelites may fall away, converted Gentiles grafted in, but the NATION OF ISRAEL is here to stay!

“O LORD, why hast thou made us to err from thy ways, and hardened our heart from thy fear? Return for thy servants’ sake, the tribes of thine inheritance; We are thine: thou never barest rule over them [Gentiles]; they were not called by thy name” (Isa. 63:17-19).

Some Gentiles have forgotten that God hasn’t called Israel to become spiritual Gentiles, but has called everyone to become spiritual Israelites! They’ve forgotten that ISRAEL IS THE HOLY ROOT to which they’ve become attached! Paul warned them: “Boast not against the branches. But if you boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee” (Rom. 11:18).

They forget that the Church is CONVERTED ISRAEL that embraces righteous Gentiles. They’ve ignored the biblical principle of DUALITY. That there’s the physical and there’s the spiritual, and that both have their ordained place! Satan is the one who would love to spiritualize Israel away into oblivion! He wants God to break His promises to physical Israel and let them die in a spiritual holocaust!

However, God refuses to forget His physical people Israel and His holy purpose for them! “Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? Yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee” (Isa. 49:14-15,Jer. 31:20).

We’re supposed to ENCOURAGE ISRAEL TO REMEMBER THEIR ROOTS AND JUDAH HIS RESPONSIBILITY BEFORE GOD, not discourage them! Nevertheless, God remembers them and places His special protective seal upon 144,000 Israelites before the Day of the Lord (Rev. 7:4), and purposely names the 12 gates of the New Jerusalem after the 12 Tribes! (Rev. 21:12). This ought to prove that Israel remains first and foremost in God’s Mind! (Zech. 2:8). After all, salvation is to the Jew first and then to the Gentile (Acts 3:26; Rom. 1:16).

Paul addresses the nonsense of those who would belittle Israel by asking, “Has God cast away his people? GOD FORBID!” He goes on to show that God has always graciously preserved an ISRAELITE REMNANT, a “holy lump,” even when He permitted the majority of Israel to go astray so that He could meanwhile recruit Gentiles (Rom. 11:1,5,16).

Those who preach the polluted propaganda of replacement theology would say physical Israel doesn’t matter any more, but Paul clearly fought against such damnable lies! He also reminded his Gentile audience that it’s the Israelites who were given everything from the Land Covenant to the Law (Rom. 9:4-5).

Those who preach Satan’s lies against Israel had better read and believe and take warning! God says, despite Israel’s horrible sins, “I WILL NOT CAST THEM AWAY, neither will I abhor them, to destroy them utterly, and to break my covenant with them: for I am the LORD their God. But I will for their sakes remember the covenant of their [physical] ancestors, whom I brought forth out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the heathen, that I might be their God: I am the LORD” (Lev. 26:44-45).

And with physical Judah and Israel, God promises to enter into a new or renewed covenant: “Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a NEW COVENANT with the House of Israel, and with the House of Judah” (Jer. 31:31). God also states emphatically that just as surely as the sun, moon and stars continue to shine, “If those ordinances depart from before me, saith the LORD, then the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a NATION before me forever. Thus saith the LORD: If heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, I will also cast off all the seed of Israel for all that they have done, saith the LORD” (Jer. 31:35-37).

Again, God has heard the lies of those who say that He’s spiritualized away His precious promises, that the TWO PHYSICAL FAMILIES OF ISRAEL AND JUDAH (and literal descendants of David and Levi) aren’t important anymore, and says such blasphemers “Have despised my people, that they should be no more a NATION before them. Thus saith the LORD; If my covenant be not with day and night, and if I have not appointed the ordinances of heaven and earth; Then will I cast away the SEED of Jacob (unconverted Israel), and David my servant, so that I will not take any of his seed to be RULERS over the seed of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob: for I will cause their captivity to return, and have mercy on them” (Jer. 33:17-26).

GOD’S WORD STANDS! Those who deny it will be history! “For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed” (Malachi 3:6). God will keep His promises to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, and to their physical descendants: Israel will become His model nation, His Kingdom of Priests and His light to all nations! (Lk. 1:68-75). We can bet our lives on it!

We Get Our Favorite Things In The Exciting World Of Web Design

And find that building websites is a great way to funnel my creative spirit. Websites give you plenty of room to come up with all kinds of different creative scenarios.

The beauty of web design is that by its very nature is interactive, by that I mean the finished product.

With website design I can build a product I know one day someone else will have a personal connection to and will interact with it.

In some ways I didn’t see it as my own immortality. Everyday, but the new design for web page, even if I have no reason to actually build a web page.

Which is something fun about building websites and playing with new technology.

I have a lot of friends who are on the Internet for one reason or another. Some get on it just to chat to use the instant messages programs, others love to surf the web and learn new things.

But no matter what they get online for 9 tons of the tender gotta come across a website or website technology like HTML for example.

This is what makes web design so exciting to me, because it gets into every nook and cranny of the Internet, and I get to become a builder of the infrastructure, at least in part.

Everyday I wake up with the question of mind what am I got a bill today.

Are You Money Conscious ?

Dear Internet friend. Each human being is an incredible
piece of sowtware. Each one of us has been “programmed”
in a certain way. This program runs our lives 24 hours
a day, and will govern our entire life. But who was the
programmer? Of course you were not alone in it, it was a
“joint venture” between you and the society. By society,
I mean ,your parents ,friends ,teachers ,colleagues etc.
Your program runs every aspect of your life, right from
your physical appearance to the amount of money you earn.
In this article I will discuss how this program affects
Your money matters. The part of the program which decides
Your financial success is called as “Money Consciousness”.

In a single sentence I would say that “you will earn how
much you believe you can earn.” This clearly means that
you have programmed yourself to earn the amount of money
you are earning now. There is a code running constantly
in your mind which governs your actions when you try to
earn money. It is your belief system about the whole aspect
of money which decides your financial fortune.

A person with “poor” money consciousness has an underlying
emotion about money and that’s “fear”. Fear of losing money
is what governs their financial ability. These people always
think that there is never enough money with me, and their
mind picks up the message, which reflects in outward reality.
There is one more major emotion, which drives their mind.
They think that earning too much money is bad. or money brings
problems with it. So they never think about the possibilities
money can bring in their lives, and accept a conservative
lifestyle. Our mind is like a magnet. It will attract
exactly the same circumstances and opportunities which are
in tune with what we believe to be true. So if a person
believes money is bad, his mind will recreate exactly the same
situations in his real world experience which will reaffirm
his belief that “money is bad.”

In such a way this person goes on believing day after day
and keeps himself away from all the riches which he
probably deserves. Now the question is, is there any way to
get out this? Of course and the answer is AUTOSUGGESTIONS.

What are autosuggestions?
Autosuggestion is a technique to train your mind either
consciously or unconsciously to believe a particular
statement to be true. Autosuggestions can be used to
“reprogram” whatever we have been learning from the
day we were born and mould ourselves to believe a new
set of “commands” to a paint a new picture of ourselves
and eventually the world around us. If we use the techniques
of autosuggestion to change the false beliefs about money,
it directly affects our financial situation. If used
positively a person can start changing his financial
situations in as less as one month.

There are many methods by which this can be easily done.
I will discuss one method here.
1)Put posters on walls of your bedroom, with affirmative
statements. This poster(s) should be clearly visible to
you. You can also use the same poster in you office or the
place your work. The bottom line is your mind must be kept
alarmed about a new command more often until it starts
believing it to be true. If you can convince your mind to
obey the new affirmation then you are done.
If used positively autosuggestions can be an excellent way
to take charge of our lives to in any unhappy situation.
Remember that never use negative statements. Because your
mind will believe it to be true and recreate the reality
which is negative for you. There are two major point you
should remember
while framing your affirmations or autosuggestions.
1)Always use “I” in your statement
2)Keep the statement in present tense.

Let’s see an example. If I want to change my money beliefs
I can use a statement “I OPEN MYSELF TO RECEIVE ALL THE
RICHES I DESEREV” OR “I AM WELATHY AND PROSPEROUS”. Both
these are statements are direct and in present tense.
Instead of saying “I WILL” be prosperous someday, this
statement forces the mind to believe that “I AM” already
in position to receive the riches I deserve, thus eliminating
the chances of believing that the solution will be
sometime in future. Your mind will start absorbing this new
“command” the moment you begin.

Thus autosuggestions can be used to change any unhappy
situation in our life such as personal relationships,
finances, health, bad habits etc.

Mentor??? Who Needs A Mentor?

Who needs a mentor. . .everyone who is truly serious about
achieving more of their true potential, personally and
financially. In fact, Richard Brooke says:

“If you’re someone who wants to break out and do something
extraordinary that you would not do on your own initiative, you
better have a coach-and you better have a great one.”

If you doubt Mr. Brooke’s quote may I suggest you investigate
all top success icons in any field and you will find they all
have Mentors and Coaches. It is reported that Michael Jordon
at the peak of his career had 11 coaches.

You may be asking: what’s the difference between a Mentor
and a Coach? Webster’s dictionary defines a . . .

Mentor as: “An experienced and trusted friend and prudent
advisor.”

Coach as: “a private tutor; one who instructs or trains
a performer or a team of performers.”

We have defined two types of Mentors – Life and Area
Specific Mentors. A Life Mentor is one whose success
system or methodology is universal and the foundation
for success in every area of a person’s life.

Finding a Life Mentor whose success system is universal
to everyone, no matter his or her education, talents or social
status, is extremely difficult. This is why Napoleon Hill,
author of Think & Grow Rich, is so unique and the ideal
Life Mentor because his success system is the foundation
for every outstanding achievement and fortune ever made.

An Area Specific Mentor is a mentor, often referred to as
a “coach,” whose knowledge and expertise is in one or a few
areas of life. For example, a head coach of a National
Football League (NFL) team possesses knowledge, skills and
a system encompassing all aspects of the game. However,
he utilizes coaches skilled in the different areas of the
game such as offense, defense and special teams.

Below are six areas in life where we can use Area Specific
Mentors/Coaches:

1) Physical/Health
2) Family
3) Mental/Educational
4) Career/Financial
5) Social/Civic
6) Spiritual/Ethical

Seriously you say, do we and specifically myself really need
a mentor? Let’s look at the facts:

No one person will live long enough to make all of the mistakes

In simple terms, mentors speed the learning process and are
the reason for advancements in technology and the standards of
living we enjoy today.

The last half-century has seen very little change statistically.

Using the oft-quoted post-war study published by the Social
Security Administration and Denvey’s Economic Tables, less
than 5% of the population at that time retired wealthy or
financially independent. Sadly, a study done in March 2000 by the American
Economic Review reported that the gap between “the haves”
and “have nots” is widening.

Grade-Point-Score averages, according to studies, have barely
been maintained over the last 50 years. Moreover, in
professional sports, with all the advancements in mind and
physical development, one would think that the number of
super stars being produced would have increased dramatically;
however, as a percentage, it remains virtually unchanged.

With the explosion of entrepreneurial opportunities in
franchising and network marketing beginning in the 1980s, plus
the same explosion from the mid-1990s on in Internet businesses,
why doless than 5% of the participants in these ventures enjoy
success and make any money! WHY?

Research and my own experience, which includes teaching an
entrepreneurial course at a major community college for several
years and working with several thousand participants in my
Success and Wealth System course, leads me to one indisputable
conclusion – Most people are without mentors, especially “Life
Mentors.”

You may say: It only happens in movies or for those talented few
you say! How about the heroics and courage against unbelievable
odds in athletics, the military and in everyday life. These
qualities of character and achievement were learned from a true
Life Mentor such as parents, teachers and those who have paid the
price to be called a Mentor.

Yes, we all need good Life Mentors and Coaches at every stage of
our lives. But be careful to choose those who walk the talk and
demonstrate and exemplify the life qualities and achievements in
their own life.

In God We Trust

The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence.

As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all them that trust in him. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him. Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the LORD. And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.

The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God.

Oh how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee; which thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee before the sons of men! The LORD redeemeth the soul of his servants: and none of them that trust in him shall be desolate.

How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings.

Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. And the LORD shall help them and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in him.

And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD. Blessed is that man that maketh the LORD his trust, and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.

For I will not trust in my bow, neither shall my sword save me. They trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches; But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God: I trust in the mercy of God for ever and ever.

Thou, O God, shalt bring them down into the pit of destruction: bloody and deceitful men shall not live out half their days; but I will trust in thee. What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me. I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings. Selah.

Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.

The righteous shall be glad in the LORD, and shall trust in him; and all the upright in heart shall glory. In thee, O LORD, do I put my trust: let me never be put to confusion. For thou art my hope, O LORD God: thou art my trust from my youth.

But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the LORD God, that I may declare all thy works. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. O Israel, trust thou in the LORD: he is their help and their shield. O house of Aaron, trust in the LORD: he is their help and their shield. Ye that fear the LORD, trust in the LORD: he is their help and their shield.

It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in princes. So shall I have wherewith to answer him that reproacheth me: for I trust in thy word.
They that trust in the LORD shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth for ever.

Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee. My goodness, and my fortress; my high tower, and my deliverer; my shield, and he in whom I trust; who subdueth my people under me.

Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help. Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. That thy trust may be in the LORD, I have made known to thee this day, even to thee.

Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.

Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD Jehovah is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.

What shall one then answer the messengers of the nation? That the LORD hath founded Zion, and the poor of his people shall trust in it.

Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD Jehovah is everlasting strength.

Who is among you that feareth the LORD, that obeyeth the voice of his servant, that walketh in darkness, and hath no light? let him trust in the name of the LORD, and stay upon his God.

My righteousness is near; my salvation is gone forth, and mine arms shall judge the people; the isles shall wait upon me, and on mine arm shall they trust. Therefore will I do unto this house, which is called by my name, wherein ye trust, and unto the place which I gave to you and to your fathers, as I have done to Shiloh.

Take ye heed every one of his neighbour, and trust ye not in any brother: for every brother will utterly supplant, and every neighbour will walk with slanders.

For I will surely deliver thee, and thou shalt not fall by the sword, but thy life shall be for a prey unto thee: because thou hast put thy trust in me, saith the LORD.

The LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, saith; Behold, I will punish the multitude of No, and Pharaoh, and Egypt, with their gods, and their kings; even Pharaoh, and all them that trust in him: Leave thy fatherless children, I will preserve them alive; and let thy widows trust in me.

Trust ye not in a friend, put ye not confidence in a guide: keep the doors of thy mouth from her that lieth in thy bosom.

The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.

I will also leave in the midst of thee an afflicted and poor people, and they shall trust in the name of the LORD. And in his name shall the Gentiles trust.

And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!

And again, Esaias saith, There shall be a root of Jesse, and he that shall rise to reign over the Gentiles; in him shall the Gentiles trust … Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us.

For we write none other things unto you, than what ye read or acknowledge; and I trust ye shall acknowledge even to the end; And such trust have we through Christ to God-ward. Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.

Do ye look on things after the outward appearance? If any man trust to himself that he is Christ’s, let him of himself think this again, that, as he is Christ’s, even so are we Christ’s. For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.

Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy.

And again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Behold I and the children which God hath given me.

Imagining the Life of Mary, Mother of Jesus

So little is said about Mary, the mother of Jesus, in the Gospels. We can only imagine her thoughts and feelings as she went from being a simple Jewish girl to the mother of the Son of God. In “Shalom, Mary: Letters the Blessed Virgin Might have Written”, Kathleen Culligan Techler has done just that. This is indeed a work of fiction. Obviously, no one but Mary herself (and God above) know what the experience was like for her. Yet, in reading “Shalom, Mary”, one gets the sense that it might have been this way. This is a human Mary struggling to make sense of the unusual set of circumstances she has found herself in.

Techler has Mary share her intimate thoughts with Rebekah, a girlhood friend who has since moved away. The letters begin with news of the Annunciation. Here we find Mary not sure how to tell her parents or her betrothed she is pregnant: “Whatever the future brings, I want to do God’s will. My son the Son of God! How can I tell my parents? . . . And what of Joseph? . . . How could he possibly accept this news as the truth?” Yes, you can almost see the scared teenager confiding her secret to her dearest friend. Through the years, Mary shares her perspective on her trip to visit Elizabeth, Jesus’ birth and the strangers that came to visit them in Bethlehem, their hurried journey to Egypt, and Jesus growing up. She tells of everyday occurrences such as meals made and the joy of watching Joseph and Jesus work together in the workshop. Techler’s Mary speaks with a mother’s pride: “I know you are smiling, Rebekah, at my pride in Jesus and his accomplishments. We mothers are all alike, aren’t we?”

In time, however, their happy life in Nazareth must come to an end and Jesus must go out to spread the message he was born to speak. In these days, Mary speaks with maternal concern for her son: “I worry that he does not get enough rest. I hope that he has some time alone, for he always needed to get away by himself and pray.” Mary also must face the loss of her husband: “The Lord has taken my dear Joseph home. I did not know it was possible to miss someone this much!” Finally, she shares her pain at the crucifixion: “I remembered that years ago old Simeon had said a sword would pierce my heart. Believe me, Rebekah, it has,” as well as her joy at the Resurrection: “My soul is singing praises to the Lord!”

One knows how the story will turn out, and yet, Techler has managed to make it suspenseful. I found myself wanting to see what would happen next, eager to read the next letter in the collection. This is a wonderful volume, perfect for meditating on the life of Mary.
