Search Engine Optimization Techniques

Search engine optimization is the process of increasing the amount of visitors to a website by achieving a high ranking in the search results of a search engine (i.e. Yahoo, Google, etc.). The higher a website ranks in a search, the better the chance that a website will be visited. Most Internet users will not click through multiple pages of search results, so a high ranking in a search is necessary to direct more traffic to your website.

While a top listing is not guaranteed, there are a number of small steps that you can take to improve your chances of gaining a top ranking. We recommend the following 5 basic steps to produce a more desirable search engine listing:

1. Content Writing/Keywords

We’ve found that content targeting seems to be the most successful strategy. Search engines are beginning to use algorithms that identify the main themes of entire websites instead of just single pages. In order to create a main theme for search engine optimization, you must identify a focused group of keywords that exist on and are relevant to the content on most pages of your website.

In practical terms, if you’re writing an article, service description or sales copy for your website, focus on creating informative and interesting content, but factor in keyword phrases that are more likely to give you a better ranking with the search engines.

Key word selection can be a rather complex process as there are many different factors that come into play when search engines decide the ranking of your webpage and how well your keywords rank. You may wish to spend some time educating yourself about this process. A good rule of thumb is to choose 2 to 3 word phrases from content that appears throughout your website that you expect to have the greatest appeal to the visitors you want to attract. We suggest that you consult with other colleagues as your create your list.

2. META Tags

Meta tags are special HTML tags that provide information about a webpage, such as who created the page, how often it is updated, what the page is about, and which keywords represent the page’s content. Many search engines use this information when building their indices.

Meta tags should contain your basic content terms. We recommend that you do not use too many words (less than 25) and that you do not repeat keywords as this could cause the search engines to overlook your website. You can use Overture Term Suggestion Tool http://www.content.overture.com/d/USm/adcenter/tools/index.jhtml to find the highest rated keywords.

We also offer a simple free Online Tool http://www.promotionworld.com/tools/meta.html to create your own meta tags. Once you’ve created your meta tags, you can use this Meta Tag Analyzer http://submitexpress.com/analyzer/to see how search engine robots analyze your web site. This data will help you to determine if your web content or meta tags need any changes. Please keep in mind that search engines avoid sites with multiple unrelated meta tags.

3. URL Submission

Once your website is complete, its time to submit your site to the search engines. We strongly recommend using Promotion World’s free search engine submission tool. It’s a terrific service that allows you to submit 10 URLs at a time and to receive accurate and descriptive results on the submissions. As you review the results, it’s likely that you will find some failed submissions. For the failed submissions, Promotion World provides information on how to submit your site manually.

4. Site Ranking

Search engine optimization doesn’t end with submitting your website to search engines. You still need to determine the popularity of your site and make any necessary changes. In order to check how your site is ranked, go to Alexa.com. If your site ranking is between 1 and 100,000, it has a solid ranking. If you are ranked over 100,000 or you’re just not happy with your site ranking, a popular way to increase your ranking is to trade links to your site with other sites. This typically works because external links are the main criteria for Google’s ranking and Google is being used by such powerhouses as Yahoo, AOL, Infoseek, etc.

5. Website Promotion

Your search engine optimization endeavors should always be reinforced by other forms of promotion and marketing. One way to do this is to use a newsletter to deliver useful and informative content that will drive visitors to your website. Other methods of promotion include online advertising, print advertising, a special promotion (i.e. chance to win a digital camera), surveys, and word-of-mouth promotion through friends and family.

Website promotion is a crucial part of eBusiness. Success in sales is a numbers game and without serious web traffic you will not have the numbers you need to prosper.

The REAL JESUS Can’t Return Until

Prophecy clearly reveals that the REAL JESUS CHRIST will not return to Earth from Heaven (in full view of all mankind – not from some secret EU or Vatican chamber or desert cave) until after Jerusalem has suffered under a Gentile EU occupation for three and one half years, complete with Europe’s wannabe divine emperor polluting the holy Temple just like Antiochus Epiphanes polluted the Temple before (as the Prophet Daniel forewarned).

The two witnesses, representing Judah and Levi (priest and king – God’s system of government as opposed to Rome’s demonic system of Babylon), will testify against the counterfeit kingdom of God (the final revival of the unholy Roman Empire) and will testify against the wannabe God who pollutes the Temple with his unclean presence and fights against the biblical people who love and obey God and reject the idolatrous traditions of men.

These same two witnesses will herald the coming of our King from Heaven, the King of the Jews, the King of Israel (first and foremost) to restore God’s government on Earth and establish the literal divine Kingdom-Family of God on Earth, liberating Jerusalem and regathering the British-Israelite and Jewish holocaust survivors from the four corners of the earth, destroying the Beast and False Prophet as announced in the Book of Revelation.

Come Lord Yashua!

Poker Tie Breakers

One of the most common ways to break a tie in poker is to use a kicker card. A kicker card is a card in your hand that is not necessarily involved with the poker hand you are using to win. For example, if you have two pairs, the fifth card that is not matched up is the kicker card.

Kicker cards are used in all varieties of poker, but they take on the most significant in Texas Hold’em. Because Texas Hold’em is a communally based game, there is a strong chance that two different players will make pairs using a card on the board. In this case the second card acts as the kicker and determines the winner. There is a small chance that the kickers of each player would be identical. If this is the case then it is not possible to decide a winner and the players split the pot.

Another definition of the kicker is used in draw varieties of poker. In draw pokers, the kicker is a card retained by a player in the hopes that it will be purposeful later in the game. When it comes time for the players to reveal their hands, this retained card functions in the traditional sense of the kicker to determine the winner.

A Personal Safety Weapon To Consider: The Self-Defense Keychain

I use a generic term, “Self-Defense Keychain,” to describe this device but you may have heard of it by more popular, commercial names such as “Kubaton” or “Persuader Keychain.” Because, “Kubaton” is the most popular, I’ll use that term interchangeably with the one I use.

The Kubaton is a light-weight metal, plastic or wooden dowel. It’s about five inches long and one half inch in diameter. The shaft of this weapon is usually knurled or grooved so that it doesn’t slip in your hand. On one end of the Kubaton is a ring or two holding a cluster of ten to fifteen keys.

Recently, manufacturers have attempted to enhance the Kubaton with sharpened ends, telescoping tubes, spikes, enclosed canisters of pepper spray and even hidden knife blades. I won’t get into these additional “bells and whistles” and will limit my recommendation to the basic model consisting of a shaft, key rings and keys.

=====================================================

The self-defense keychain is discrete, unassuming, and convenient to carry. If used properly, it can dramatically increase the odds of surviving and escaping from a serious, life-threatening assault. I discuss the keychain during my self-defense seminars because it stands up nicely to the seven evaluation questions.

I prefer to discuss and provide information about the keychain but hesitate to make blatant recommendations about it, or any other device or weapon. I believe that the decision about whether to carry a personal safety device, and which one you carry, is YOUR decision. I prefer that you evaluate and analyze the “pros and cons” for yourself. This article is to assist you in that process process.

=====================================================

SEVEN EVALUATION QUESTIONS

If you missed the last issue of the Protective Strategies Self-Defense Newsletter (December 2000) I’ll review the seven Personal Safety Device Evaluation Questions:

1. Is it legal?
2. Will I carry it all the time?
3. Will it be immediately available when I need it?
4. Do I have legitimate confidence in my ability to use it?
5. Is it as effective as it has been held out to be?
6. Could it be taken away and used on me?
7. Am I physically, mentally and emotionally prepared to use it?

====================================== ===============

1. IS IT LEGAL?

In most jurisdictions that I am aware of, the Kubaton is legal. It can be purchased over the counter in security, martial arts and sporting goods stores. I found several online merchants selling them for $5 to $25 dollars. Because they have a utility function (to hold your keys) they can be legally carried.

— Sidebar —
In Canada, the Kubaton is neither a restricted nor a prohibited weapon. It is therefore legal to carry providing it is not used for illegal purposes. They are also available across the U.S. However, if you are considering carrying a Kubaton, you might want to make your own enquiries to confirm if they are legal in your jurisdiction.
— Sidebar —

2. WILL I CARRY IT ALL THE TIME?

This is the beauty of the self-defense keychain. What is the most common thing that you carry in your hand when coming or going from your vehicle, home or workplace? Your keys! Because you carry your day-to-day keys on the self-defense keychain, it is likely that you will have it in your hand more than any other object. This increases the odds that, if you are attacked, it will be in your hand and ready to go. This is a huge benefit when considering a personal safety device or weapon.

3. WILL IT BE IMMEDIATELY AVAILABLE WHEN I NEED IT?

Again, the self-defense keychain is likely to be ready to go when you need it most. It’s not enough to have a Personal Safety Device in your possession. It won’t do you much good in your purse, pocket or vehicle. If you keep your keys on the keychain, it is a simple matter of establishing a habit of carrying it in your hand whenever you leave your home.

4.DO I HAVE CONFIDENCE IN MY ABILITY TO USE IT?

There are a number of “SILLY” techniques associated with the Kubaton. They include fancy wristlocks, takedowns, releases from holds and other elaborate techniques that just won’t stand up in the stress and chaos of a real-world confrontation. Even if they did work (which they don’t) they would require extensive practice and training to become competent.

Secondly, in a stressful encounter, only simple, large-muscle actions can be performed effectively. For that reason, a practical self-defense system must be simple and have as few techniques as possible. The system that I teach, for example, consists of three basic striking methods that are natural and consistent with what one would conceivably do during a combative situation.

Because the Kubaton is a hard object, it concentrates and intensifies the striking energy that is transferred into the assailant. Even with minimal training, a keychain strike is far more likely to incapacitate a violent assailant than an empty-handed response.

5. IS IT AS EFFECTIVE AS IT HAS BEEN HELD OUT TO BE?

When used properly, the self-defense keychain is a devastating weapon with potential to seriously injure and incapacitate a violent attacker. For that reason, it should only be used in situations where you reasonably believe the attack is serious and life threatening. You must also believe that you don’t have less forceful alternatives available to protect yourself.

— Sidebar —
WAIVER – Because of the potential consequences of using a personal safety weapon, I need to be clear that I provide this information for educational purposes only. How you use the information is up to you. Refer to my disclaimer statement at: http://www.protectivestrategies.com/disclaimer.html
— Sidebar —

6.COULD IT BE TAKEN AWAY AND USED ON ME?

The honest answer to this question is, “yes.” ANY personal safety weapon: a knife, pepper spray or a shoe for that matter, can potentially be taken away and used on you in the same fashion you intended to use it on your assailant.

However, the general consensus amongst my seminar candidates is that the benefits of having one outweigh the possibility of losing it. A benefit of the self-defense keychain is that the assailant may not recognize it as a weapon and, if he did gain access to it, wouldn’t think to use it as one.

It is important to consider the potential of being disarmed when carrying a personal safety weapon. Acknowledge the possibility of dropping or losing it and do everything you can to prevent it from falling into the hands of your attacker.

7. AM I PHYSICALLY, MENTALLY AND EMOTIONALLY PREPARED TO USE IT?

This is a question only you can answer. Don’t just buy a self-defense keychain, attach it to your keys and carry it around expecting that you will magically resort to it if you are ever attacked. A basic, self-defense response system should be learned and practiced when adopting this device.

Developing competence does not require thousands of repetitions and hours of training. However, you should spend some time learning how to prepare and grip the weapon as well as how and where to strike an assailant for maximum effectiveness.

Ideally, you should seek out instruction from a competent self-defense keychain instructor. However, if the system is simple enough (as mine is) I believe you can teach yourself the basic skills you need from a manual.

The keychain basics are simple and not hard to learn. Using the keychain will intensify the destructiveness of your response to a violent attack and increase the potential of escaping death or serious injury. Learn the basic concepts (mental preparation). Practice the basic strikes (physical preparation). The only thing left is to develop the emotional resolve to do whatever it takes to protect yourself and survive!

==================================================

CONCLUSION

Whether you decide to explore the issue of the self-defense keychain further; whether you decide to buy and carry one, is entirely up to you. I can provide you only with information to assist you with that decision making process but ultimately you must take full responsibility for your personal safety and draw your own conclusions about what is and isn’t right for you. If you’ve read this far, I’m sure you’ll make a wise choice.

Take care, train smart and stay safe,

Randy LaHaie

====================== So What? ==========================

Now that you have this information, what good is it to you? Before we get into that, let me be clear on a VERY IMPORTANT POINT. I am NOT an advocate of carrying a weapon or device as a “PRIMARY” self-defense strategy. A PSD is a piece of the overall puzzle but not nearly as effective as developing a comprehensive and balanced personal safety strategy.

Your “BRAIN” is your primary tool for staying safe. Your mental, physical and emotional development determines your ability to avoid and detect danger and to deal with it effectively if it does arise.

Fighting back… especially with a weapon, should be considered a last resort, not a first, and especially not the only one you have! If you must fight back, the keychain will help, but don’t lose sight of the need to explore and develop the other components of self-defense that will have a greater affect on your ability to stay safe.

The keychain is just one more tool in your “self-defense tool box.” Keep Looking for and developing other skills, knowledge and response options. That’s why we say one “STUDIES” self-defense. It’s an on going process. We can’t buy it, borrow it or carry it in our pocket. Don’t forget that.

================== Self-Defense Quote ====================

“Remember: it’s not the weapon that counts so much as how you use it. Even the most commonplace or seemingly harmless item becomes an efficient weapon when directed toward the vulnerable parts of the human body. Household weapons are often at your fingertips, so use them!”

A Beginners Guide To Buying Authentic Japanese Swords

Authentic Japanese swords can and usually do cost a small fortune.

In fact many (though not all) sword collectors maintain that to get a half way decent sword you need to be spending around US$1000. And the maximum? Well, the sky is the limit (there are quite a few Japanese made Katana that sell for around the US$25,000 mark).

So what about all those $50 swords being sold on ebay and everywhere else?

Well, at the end of the day, these swords are often junky ornamental “sword like objects”. They can’t be used as a martial arts weapon. Even just swinging them around with moderate force risks the blade snapping off at the handle…

But if you know what to look for, buying authentic Japanese swords at a reasonable price – say for around US$150 to $500 is quite possible. And in some cases, for even less than this amount of money, it’s possible to get a nice sword that is well balanced, sharp, strong and an excellent ‘bang for your buck’ buy.

For start though – let’s take a very quick look at what separated the authentic Japanese swords from the ornamentals:

  • Japanese swords are slightly curved, sharp and single edged

  • Authentic Japanese swords are light, fast weapons and should weigh no more than 3lbs max. They are also very well balanced

  • Real Japanese swords aren’t made from stainless steel – they are made from high carbon steel. They also have what is called a “differentially tempered blade” – meaning that the sharp edge of the sword is harder than the spine, giving the sword flexibility (so it doesn’t shatter on impact) but also extreme cutting power.

  • Real Japanese swords also have a tang (the part of the blade that goes into the handle) that is made as part of the blade, not a length of steel welded on afterwards (called a “rat tail” tang).

There are also a few other factors, such as traditional appearance and fittings to consider…

Now in our target price range of US$150 to $500 – there are only a few swords which qualify – and you’d be surprised, it isn’t necessarily the most expensive ones either…

The first is the Generation 2 BWT Katana (around US$329 + shipping)

While I really like Gen2s line of European swords as top quality yet very affordable “beater” swords, their BWT Katana – while a good choice, still has a few major drawbacks. There are two versions of this sword – a more traditional but rather plain looking one and another that uses a lot of brown suede and has an almost surreal “cowboy” quality to it…

Neither are particularly attractive. But the biggest problem is a structural flaw – in that the BWT Katana uses water buffalo horn for the small but critical band under the hand guard (called the fuchi) that has actually been known to occasionally crack on impact…

Moving on…

A lot of people like the Nahuarra of Mexico Katana (RRP around US$200 – but they are almost impossible to actually buy at this price and tend to go for US$400+)

Unfortunately, they are a bit too plain, too heavy (around 3.52lbs), poorly balanced, sharp (but not as sharp as they should be), difficult to find and – well…

Moving on…

Cold Steel make a very durable “Katana” for just a tad over the US$300 mark. These swords are sharp and extremely durable. But they aren’t in any way traditional. They aren’t differentially tempered (they are a mono-steel sword, like a European blade – all of one uniform hardness) and they aren’t balanced properly…

BUT – they aren’t a BAD choice… Only thing is, in my opinion (and in the opinion of many Japanese sword enthusiasts the world over) there is a better and even cheaper alternative.

If you are really looking for an affordable “entry level” Japanese sword – there really is only 1 choice, and that’s the Practical Katana and the Practical Plus Katana by Paul Chen’s Hanwei Forge.

These swords have it all – and for an online price tag of around US$279 for the Practical Plus Katana and US$169 for the plain vanilla model – they offer outstanding value for money.

They are light (under 3lbs) and incredibly well balanced. They are made from top quality high carbon steel. They have a “differentially tempered” blade, a solidly constructed tang and boy – are these babies sharp! I’ve cut everything from cardboard boxes to lengths of rope, water filled plastic bottles (of all shapes and sizes in a row and hanging), bamboo and traditional rolled tatami mats and it’s no exaggeration to say that I have never once actually felt any resistance to my cuts. In fact, many of my friends who aren’t sword nuts are able to effortlessly cut a plastic water bottle filled with water so easily that they swore that they missed (until the water comes gushing out over their feet that is).

I just love these swords! And what’s so cool about them is the price! NOTHING COMES CLOSE!

Now sure, they aren’t the same as swords ten times the price. But I remember seeing on a website when I was first checking them out a side by side comparison of quite a few different “entry level” Katana – and these were the only cheap Japanese swords that even got a look in – and overall, they were just 33% behind swords TEN TIMES THE PRICE!

Anyway – at the end of the day, if you love authentic Japanese swords, and don’t have (or don’t want to spend) a whole lot of money, you should have a serious look at these swords! I guarantee, you’ll join me and a small army of raving fans across the world…

Kendo Equiptment

Kendo is a very physical sport and and its practicioners need lots of protective equiptment. The gear include the kendo bogu (armor), the kendo uniform (worn under the bogu; consists of a hakama and G.I.), and the kendo stick/sword (also known as a shinai).

Bogu can be bought at specialized kendo stores, like E-Bogu. E-bogu is known to be one of the BEST sites to buy bogu and other kendo equiptment from. The majority or kendoka buy their equiptment from E-Bogu.

The bogu is comprised of the men (helment), kote (arm guard), do (chest protector), and tare (groin protector).
Kendo, Kumdo, Kenjutsu, kendo bogu

The kendo shinai must be properly taken care of or else it will pose a danger to both you and your opponent. The shinai must be checked for splinters and oiled regularly. This helps keep the shinai from breaking and sending razor sharp shrapnel into you and your opponents faces.

The shinai’s string must also be kept tight. This is to keep the top from slipping off and making the shinai go through your opponents men.

If you think your shinai or bogu are damaged or not safe, do NOT use it and tell your sensei. Help keep your dojo safe for everyone.

International-kendo.com is an up and comming kendo site with a wealth of information.

Comparing Wedding Car Hire from Different Companies

If you are planning a traditional wedding with all the trappings, be sure not to forget to find a wedding car hire service. There are so many elements to planning a wedding, from selecting the church and reception hall to deciding how they will be decorated inside, etc. ad infinitum. However, don’t forget to plan how you will get to the church, reception, or anywhere else you will need to go on your wedding day. If you choose a service like AT&T Chauffeurs, not only will they provide all your wedding day chauffeuring needs, they will also give you a wedding checklist to make sure you don’t forget anything else. When arranging transportation for a wedding, remember to consider not just the bride and groom, but the whole wedding party. Will everyone be arriving at the church separately, or together? Your wedding car hire service should be able to provide not only a limousine for the bride and groom, but matching or complementary support vehicles, as well. For example, the bride and groom could arrive in a silver stretch Mercedes, with the rest of the wedding party following in a matching pair of silver S-class Mercedes. A matching pair of silver Jaguars is also available, in addition to a variety of classy vintage cars.

North Cyprus Property Boom – Serious Reunification Talks Spell Change in Fortunes For Island

Whilst their might be a media blockade on the details of reunification talks between Dimitris Christofias and Mehmet Ali Talat – the leaders agreed to mutual secrecy over the ins and outs of the process – the symbolic resonance of the first of their weekly meetings cannot be ignored. The first two leaders to seriously consider the reunification potential of the island, political commentators were already excited at the prospect of Christofias joining Talat as respective head of taste before he was duly elected in January. When he beat the other Republic of Cyprus election candidates he set in motion a more rapid reconciliation of the partitioned island than it had seen since the original division in 1974. And the two leaders – who have both iterated their obligation to reunification time and again – met for 5 preliminary meetings over the last 8 months, before settling on these weekly meetings. And any sceptic’s fears that these meetings would merely pay lip service to the need for unity have essentially been put to rest, as it is reported that the first of the weekly meetings was dominated by serious discussion on the nature of power sharing for the two presidents in a unified island. That news will come as music to the ears of all those Turkish Cypriots who voted in favour of reunification in the Annan Plan Referendum of 2004 and the Greek Cypriots who voted in Dimitris Christofias on the basis of his pro-reunification and pro-community policies. So it seems that the reunification of the island is beginning in earnest. And it will bring with it booms in tourism across the island, as tourists look to utilize the natural beauty of North Cyprus in particular; the return of the unified island to the European fold will bring with it a certain trust that can only increase and indulge the tourist industry on the island and in North Cyprus. But what stands to benefit most, though, is the property industry, as property investment increases over the island. But in particular, what experts are terming the north Cyprus Property Boom will see North Cyprus property prices rise dramatically with reunification. That speculation, with power sharing now being seriously discussed, is becoming a speculative reality. So prices for property in North Cyprus – which are currently just a third of those in the Republic of Cyprus – will rise to new and impressive heights. So what is clear is that reunification is going to bring a new dawn to the divided and war torn island of Cyprus. And when it does – because that is now incredibly likely – the North Cyprus Property Boom is going to be at the forefront of that; it will feed into the economy of the island and the whole island will stand to benefit.

Performance Tuning of a Daffodil DB / One$DB -JDBC Application

This article illustrates the best practices to improve the performance of Daffodil DB / One$DB JDBC Driver. This article focuses on how to improve the performance of a Daffodil DB / One$DB JDBC application using Statement, PreparedStatemnt, CallableStatement and ResultSet interfaces. Choosing the right statement interfaces and right methods according to your SQL query plays a vital role in improving the performance of a JDBC Driver.

JDBC Overview

JDBC API provides standard set of interfaces to work with databases like Daffodil DB / One$DB, Oracle, Derby etc.

Connection interface encapsulates database connection functionality, Statement interface encapsulates SQL statement representation and execution functionality whereas ResultSet interface encapsulates retrieving data which comes from the execution of a SQL query using Statement.

Following are the basic steps to write a JDBC program.

1. Import “java.sql” and “javax.sql” packages. (Import “javax.sql”, if advanced JDBC feature like XA is to be used)

2. Load Daffodil DB JDBC driver (embedded or network JDBC Driver)

3. Establish connection to database using Connection interface

4. Create a Statement

5. Execute the Statement

6. Retrieve results by using ResultSet interface

7. Close Statement and Connection

Choosing right Statement interface:

There are three types of Statement interfaces in JDBC to represent/execute a SQL query-Statement, PreparedStatement and CallableStatement. Statement is used for executing static SQL statement with no input and output parameters; PreparedStatement is used to execute dynamic SQL statement with input parameters whereas CallableStatement is used to execute dynamic SQL with both input and output parameters. One important thing to note about PreparedStatement and CallableStatement is that they can also be used for static SQL statements. However, CallableStatement is mainly meant for stored procedures.

PreparedStatement gives better performance when compared to Statement because it is pre-parsed and pre-compiled. This means that compilation and parsing of such statement is done only once by the database. Afterwards the database reuses the already parsed and compiled statement. This significantly improves the performance because whenever a statement has to be executed repeatedly, it doesn’t need to be parsed and compiled time and again. So the overload incurred by parsing and compiling the same statement can be reduced.

When there is a requirement for single request to process multiple complex statements, CallableStatement gives better performance as compared to PreparedStatement and Statement.
